Peoria Heights Mayor Matt Wigginton vetoed a 1% grocery tax ahead of today's board meeting, saying the regressive measure would raise grocery costs for low-income families. The tax will miss the Oct. 1 deadline unless the board overrides his veto on October 7—if that happens, it may be implemented mid-year.
Gas prices in Peoria dropped almost two cents per gallon to an average of $3.33 on Monday according to GasBuddy's survey of 148 stations. Prices are a little over 3.5 cents higher than a month ago and 15 cents lower than this time last year+AAA Illinois reported similar trends in the area.
