- ➤ Peoria Public Schools Board of Education candidates spoke Saturday at First Baptist Church during a forum hosted by the League of Women Voters; nearly 100 residents asked questions on issues including graduation rates & teacher retention as early primary voting begins Feb. 5. 25 News Now
- ➤ More than 2,100 student musicians and 10,000 family members filled the Peoria Civic Center during the Illinois Music Education Conference — which concluded Saturday — to showcase performances and attend workshops. The event boosted local business and will remain in Peoria for another five years. 25 News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Peoria City Council will vote Monday at 6 p.m. on a settlement with Boyd Gaming — a deal that drops city objections to the new Par-A-Dice Riverboat Casino and secures a share of gaming revenues if approved, ending a 1991 dispute and allowing the casino's completion in late 2028. - ➤ Peoria City Council will vote at a Monday meeting at 6 p.m. on a settlement with Boyd Gaming that drops objections to a new $160M casino in East Peoria. If approved, the city will receive a share of the casino's gaming revenues and construction will finish in late 2028. Peoria Journal Star
