  • Estella Jackson turned 100 on Dec. 12 at her granddaughter’s Timeless Events Social Studio where six generations gathered to celebrate her life; the centenarian, admired for her strong faith and community service including her role in the (Know More, No More) campaign, expressed deep gratitude for her family.  25 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Peoria Public Schools Board of Education candidates spoke Saturday at First Baptist Church during a forum hosted by the League of Women Voters; nearly 100 residents asked questions on issues including graduation rates & teacher retention as early primary voting begins Feb. 5.  25 News Now
  • More than 2,100 student musicians and 10,000 family members filled the Peoria Civic Center during the Illinois Music Education Conference — which concluded Saturday — to showcase performances and attend workshops. The event boosted local business and will remain in Peoria for another five years.  25 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Peoria City Council will vote Monday at 6 p.m. on a settlement with Boyd Gaming — a deal that drops city objections to the new Par-A-Dice Riverboat Casino and secures a share of gaming revenues if approved, ending a 1991 dispute and allowing the casino's completion in late 2028.  Pekin Daily Times
  • Peoria City Council will vote at a Monday meeting at 6 p.m. on a settlement with Boyd Gaming that drops objections to a new $160M casino in East Peoria. If approved, the city will receive a share of the casino's gaming revenues and construction will finish in late 2028.  Peoria Journal Star
