Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 4th of February.
Good morning, Peoria.
🌲 Environment
Recent light snowfall has not relieved the six-month drought affecting Peoria + neighboring communities, leaving soil very dry.
State Climatologist Trent Ford said a wet, stormy spring will be needed to ease upcoming water shortages and restrictions.
📰 Finance
New tax rules mean that student loan forgiveness in 2026 and beyond could cost borrowers up to $10,000 on their next tax return, a Peoria CPA said.
Borrowers should plan ahead — even installment options require extra funds.
🏥 Health
Gov. JB Pritzker announced Tuesday that Illinois will join the World Health Organization’s Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN) to access research, alerts and training for public health preparedness.
