  • Centerpoint Community Church, led by Pastor Brian Russell, has acquired the historic former St. Bernard’s church in East Bluff & will hold its first official service on Easter Sunday, April 5 to continue the building’s legacy and support local ties.  WCBU

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Pizza Hut will close over 250 underperforming locations nationwide in the first half of 2026, according to Yum! Brands—this may affect some of the chain's 166 Illinois restaurants, including potential closures in Peoria. Residents should check the chain's website for local updates.  Pekin Daily Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • Peoria Public Library is celebrating 100 years of Black History Month with a month-long Knowledge Quest at the Lakeview Branch and a hat display honoring pioneering Mae Reeves. The library will also host a Feb. 9 screening of Sinners and a Black author book club, with Rose Farrell sharing insights from her 15-year tenure.  WCBU
  • Devoted fans waited outside the Civic Center on Thursday evening for Ghost's phone-free concert during its Skeletour World Tour (marking the band's third visit since 2018). They lined up as early as 3 a.m. in cold weather to catch the show.  25 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Boyd Gaming now proposes a 40,000 sqft casino on a permanently moored barge on the Illinois River in East Peoria after the council rejected a $1.8 million settlement offer; the Illinois Gaming Board will vote within the next three weeks and construction is set to begin this year.  Pekin Daily Times
  • Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced Monday a statewide partnership with Amazon's Ring and the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence to supply 1,000 security cameras to survivors. Peoria’s Center for Prevention of Abuse, which distributes about 48 cameras a year, is part of this initiative covering all 102 counties.  WMBD
