- ➤ Peoria’s historic Scottish Rite Theatre is reopening as TempleLive Peoria Scottish Rite with concerts and events planned for local artists and performers—Dr. Mae Gilliland from ArtsPartners of Central Illinois and Garrett Zimmerman from TempleLive Entertainment discussed the plans on Out and About this week. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A House committee advanced a bill that would let high school athletes play for both school teams and non-school teams at the same time in the same sport—despite concerns over safety and scheduling. The bill passed with a 12-0 vote and now moves to the full House for further review. WMBD
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Department of Government Efficiency will end three federal office leases in downtown Peoria. Two leases in the Becker Building, covering the FDA and U.S. Trustees Office, will expire at the end of August while the U.S. Attorney’s lease in the One Technology Plaza will also be terminated, saving nearly $250,000. - ➤ Illinois basketball coach Brad Underwood ranks 14th by earning $4.8 million for the 2025 season, according to USA TODAY Sports. His salary rose slightly over the past three years + his $25.9 million contract buyout is the fourth highest among college coaches. Pekin Daily Times
- ➤ Officials released all scores from the 2025 IHSA boys basketball state finals held March 13—15 at State Farm Center on the University of Illinois campus; the report detailed scores from semifinals, third place and championship games across Classes 1A, 2A, 3A and 4A. Pekin Daily Times
- ➤ The Bradley women's basketball team won its first Missouri Valley Conference tournament game in four seasons when the No. 9 seed defeated Valparaiso 64—58 at the Ford Center on Thursday. Kaylen Nelson led the team with 16 points and they will face top-seeded Murray State in the quarterfinals on Friday at noon. Pekin Daily Times
- ➤ The Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame banquet will be held on March 29 at the Peoria Civic Center Ballroom with a social hour at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. Advance tickets cost $55 if purchased by March 20 and won’t be sold at the door — later tickets are $65 if available. Pekin Daily Times
