BUSINESS NEWS

  • Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois CEO Don Johnson is retiring in August after serving since 2016—he led efforts to expand job training programs, add support for families and children, and raise funds for a veterans home. The organization has not yet named his replacement.  WCBU

CRIME NEWS

  • On March 15th at about 9:38 a.m., Peoria Police responded to the 700 block of Hightower and arrested 28-year-old Julius Wilson after he refused to exit his residence until officers negotiated his departure—then a search turned up a handgun that led to his arrest for unlawful firearm possession by a felon.  City of Peoria
  • Survivors advocacy group SNAP demanded urgent action from the Catholic Diocese of Peoria on a priest accused of abuse—members delivered a letter at the diocese office urging Bishop Louis Tylka to visit affected parishes and warn parents, police, and the public about dangerous predators.  WCBU
  • After a two-vehicle crash at Knoxville and Forrest Hill that closed part of the road for hours, 39-year-old Theron Seiber was arrested for Possession of Cannabis and the other driver suffered life-threatening injuries—Seiber reportedly returned to the scene before being detained.  WMBD

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Peoria issued a combined sewer overflow alert after heavy weekend rain—officials warned residents not to come into full-body contact with water near Detweiller Marina as sewage mixed with river water. The alert is part of a consent decree with the EPA and will lift after Monday if no further rain occurs.  WCBU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Peoria County voters began early voting on Monday for the April first elections, joining those in nearby counties. Election Commission Executive Director Elizabeth Gannon said the process was delayed until ballots were complete—making the two weeks before the election the busiest period.  WMBD

SPORTS NEWS

  • Journal Star staff have shared their Final Four picks for NCAA March Madness—most predictions name Michigan State, St. John's, Duke and Houston while one set of picks favors Auburn over St. John's. The report points to strong players like Cooper Flagg and coaches such as Rick Pitino as factors in the teams’ chances to win.  Pekin Daily Times
