BUSINESS NEWS

  • Pop Up Chicken in the Warehouse District received its liquor license after months of waiting, allowing owner Aaron Francis to fully operate the restaurant at 800 SW Adams with a grand opening expected soon. Mayor Rita Ali approved the license following previous approvals by the Liquor Commission and City Council.  WMBD

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Illinois Central College will open on-campus housing for up to 320 students this fall after a local investment group acquired the property from the ICC Educational Foundation (Brad Joseph, Bill Joseph, and Chad Joos). Young America Realty will manage the renovated complex with improved features planned to enhance campus life.  WMBD
  • Historian Barry McNealy will present his free lecture Towards a More Perfect Union on March 27 at 2 p.m. in the Becker Auditorium at Eureka College. The talk will examine how history changes over time and the evolution of civil rights.  WCBU

SPORTS NEWS

  • Yesterday at 8 p.m., Bradley basketball played an NIT game against the Dayton Flyers at Carver Arena in Peoria — the contest was streamed on ESPNU and gave the Braves another chance to shine in the postseason.  Pekin Daily Times
  • The Bradley Braves men's basketball team ended their NIT run with an 80-66 loss to Dayton Flyers on March 18 at Carver Arena. Coach Brian Wardle said the team struggled defensively as seniors, including Alex Huibregtse with 19 points, played their final games.  Pekin Daily Times
  • Bradley Braves guard Jaquan Johnson earned NABC Division I All-District honors on Tuesday after averaging 17.1 points per game and tying for third nationally with 85 steals, underscoring his standout scoring and defensive play in the Missouri Valley Conference.  Pekin Daily Times
