CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood identified Ian Harvey, 25, from East Peoria, as the motorcyclist who died instantly on Saturday when an unlicensed juvenile driver failed to stop at North University and West Hudson streets — his motorcycle was hit and a third vehicle struck him. WCBU
- ➤ Ian Harvey, a 25-year-old motorcyclist from East Peoria, died instantly when an unlicensed juvenile driver ran a stop sign and hit him in a three-vehicle crash on March 22 near the intersection of North University and West Hudson streets—he was wearing full protective gear at the time. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Bradley University will host a welcoming celebration on April 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Renaissance Coliseum to introduce James Shadid as its 13th president. Shadid began his role on April 1 after being unanimously selected by the board (he is a Bradley graduate and former federal judge) and will speak to students, faculty, staff and community members. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Candidates running for District 4 city council in west and northwest Peoria are set to face off in the April 1 general election. Incumbent Andre Allen focuses on community ties—while challenger Jamie Messmore stresses her business experience and views on property taxes to bring change. WCBU
- ➤ IDOT announced that the McClugage Bridge will close at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 27 for about one hour as crews start the eastbound demolition with the first of six blasts set over the next three months — traffic will be rerouted from U.S. 150 and drivers are urged to follow safety guidelines. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ OSF St. Francis Healthcare announced that Dr. Tamara Floyd will begin performing CRS-HIPEC surgeries in Peoria for patients with stage 4 and other cancers—these treatments remove as much cancer as possible and use heated chemotherapy to kill smaller tumor cells. This new option will let patients get life-saving care locally instead of traveling to Chicago or St. Louis. 25 News Now

- ➤ Voting for the 2025 Illinois Mr. Basketball award has begun as the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association working with the Chicago Tribune released 12 finalists and ballots close at 12 p.m. on March 31; winners will be notified on April 4 and honored at Illinois State University's CEFCU Arena — including three nominees from the Peoria area. - ➤ Journal Star announced the high school athlete of the week nominees for March 17-22 and voting will remain open until noon Friday. The nominees include R.J. Duncheon of East Peoria baseball, Sawyer Drury of Brimfield/Elmwood softball, Kamar Sanders of Limestone boys track, Brianna Johnson of Richwoods girls track, Ava LaFollette of Peoria Notre Dame girls soccer, and the Dunlap boys tennis team of Ethan McRaven and Alex Fei—each known for strong season starts—adding excitement to a close contest.
