ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Peoria firefighters responded to a garage fire on N. Columbus Avenue late Wednesday afternoon — arriving at 4:40 p.m. they quickly put out the fire at an unattached garage, limiting damage to about $1,500 as investigators determined it was accidental. WMBD
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On March 26th at 6:51 p.m., Peoria Police responded to a Shot Spotter alert on the 2000 block of W. Garden where they saw 38-year-old Amber D. Phelps fleeing the scene—officers later detained her after finding a loaded firearm and arrested her for Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, No FOID, and Resisting Police. - ➤ A father from Peoria and his son died at 1:15 a.m. on Thursday near Nashville when their car was struck from behind in a construction zone—25-year-old Daniel Caravaca-Bonilla now faces charges including vehicular homicide and DUI after police reported he refused testing despite signs of impairment. - ➤ Peoria officials said early voting remains low with 2,000 ballots cast in person and 5,000 returned by mail from over 20,000 sent out; they hope more voters will cast ballots before Election Day on April 1. 25 News Now
- ➤ Peoria County Drug Court celebrated its largest graduating class in nearly 30 years on March 26 when a ceremony in courtroom 210 honored 12 graduates who completed the intensive support program — local leaders including Judge Suzanne Patton attended to recognize their progress. Peoria County
- ➤ Crews are pouring footings at the new fire station on Northmoor Road and will begin erecting walls next week; the city expects to open the facility in November following a $4.2 million bid approval—Peoria also ordered two new fire engines to be built in three years to lock in current pricing amid nationwide delays. This project comes after the old station was demolished last month and cleared for construction. WCBU
- ➤ Peoria City Council approved donating its decommissioned, 20-year-old fire truck to Ukraine after a close 7–2 vote and heated debate over national politics—officials said the truck will help fight war-related fires once it departs by ship in April.
