- ➤ The Community Development Department will host Coffee with Code on Wednesday, April 30th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Peoria Public Library—Main Library at 107 NE Monroe St in the lower level auditorium—where neighbors will meet the code enforcement inspector and learn about available grant opportunities. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Two men from Bartonville pleaded guilty to damaging railroad property after allegedly moving a device that derailed a train on November 18 — they were sentenced to 30 months of probation and must complete up to 100 hours of community service — canceling a trial scheduled for next week. WMBD
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Dr. Mae Gilliland of ArtsPartners of Central Illinois spoke with artist Lori Reed about the Harvard Avenue Artists Show, which is on view at Exhibit A Gallery in Peoria Heights until the end of April. The show features 58 works by four local artists + Reed explained her animal collages and the neighborhood spirit behind the exhibit. WCBU
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Peoria public television station WTVP received more than $1.6 million in CPB funds on Tuesday after an audit cleared past misuse of funds by its former CEO and finance director—CEO Jenn Gordon said the funding, which makes up about 30% of its budget, will help staff rebuild trust and expand local services. - ➤ Updated vote counts show that last week’s election remains firm in Peoria County as provisional and mail-in ballots are still counted. Two city council races narrowed while other contests held steady, and officials will certify results on April 16 (next update expected Thursday) (no seats have flipped so far). WCBU
- ➤ Peoria City/County Joint Commission on Racial Justice & Equity will host its annual State of the Commission program on May 1 at ART Inc. in Peoria. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the event will include town hall questions with local officials and opening remarks from Mayor Rita Ali and Board Chairman James Dillon while presenting the 2024 report and plans for 2025.
