COMMUNITY NEWS

  • PeoriaGrown plans to expand its weekly Market 309 event into a full grocery store at Trewyn Park. With about $200,000 in state funding for renovations—improving accessibility and adding new refrigerators—the nonprofit aims to start upgrades this summer to better serve local families.  25 News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bradley University will use a $1M federal award to complete its drop tower for weightlessness research at the Business & Engineering Convergence Center. The upgraded facility will be the state’s only option for simulating weightless conditions and offer hands-on STEM experiences for students and researchers.  WCBU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Northern Tazewell Fire Protection District, citing declining volunteer numbers and rising service costs, plans to cease responding to calls May 1 – high-risk support will shift to Washington or East Peoria. A public meeting on its future may be held if enough community interest arises.  WMBD

HEALTH NEWS

  • OSF HealthCare is reviewing a Snapchat post — it shows a spin-the-wheel app that controversially referenced stroke patient assignments after drawing social media attention today. The hospital said its investigation will not include updates on internal personnel actions.  25 News Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Peoria Rivermen advanced to the SPHL President's Cup semifinals after defeating the Macon Mayhem 4-1 in a best-of-three series on Saturday at Carver Arena. They will face the Knoxville Ice Bears in a best-of-five series starting Friday night at Carver Arena.  WMBD
