ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Peoria firefighters responded to a nursing home fire Monday morning when crews found moderate smoke from a light ballast—residents were isolated until the smoke cleared and no one was injured while damage was estimated at $1,000 and investigators continue to examine the cause. WMBD
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Two people were injured in a shooting early Sunday morning on Peoria’s South Side when an unknown vehicle opened fire near Western and Howett, and police responded just before 1:45 a.m. near Lincoln and Blaine where a 32-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman (the victims) were taken to hospitals. - ➤ An investigation is underway after an unknown suspect knocked down a chain link fence 10 feet in length at the Peoria Disposal Company between April 9th and 11th and turned on drainage valves that released thousands of gallons of landfill runoff water into nearby creeks—damage is estimated at $2500 and included breaking a deer stand and stealing three chairs from a local property owner. - ➤ A 22-year-old man named Zavon Knox remains in jail after a Monday detention hearing following his indictment on weapons charges—he is accused of tossing a fully automatic handgun into a dumpster at Stop N Save in North Valley on January 28 while with a group, and two other males have been charged in the incident. - ➤ A break-in at a Peoria landfill on W. Southport Road between April 9th and April 11th—caused drainage valves to release thousands of gallons of garbage runoff into nearby creeks, officials reported and an investigation is underway. Peoria Journal Star
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Peoria gas prices dropped over two cents a gallon in the last week to average $3.36 on Monday—GasBuddy showed prices are 13 cents higher than a month ago and 47.5 cents lower than this time last year. Oil price drops and tariff changes have contributed to the decline—raising hope that pump prices may not go much higher this year. WMBD

- ➤ Peoria County has hired Kyle Smith as its new Assistant County Administrator (announcement confirmed by county officials) and he will join the team soon (start date not specified). Peoria County

- ➤ Journal Star high school athlete of the week nominees from Dunlap, Metamora, Richwoods and other schools are based on sports performances from April 7-12 and voters can cast their ballots online until noon Friday — nominees include a baseball pitcher, a softball hitter, track runners, soccer and tennis players.
