CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Elizabeth Klise of the Peoria Historical Society explained that a new exhibition—Place and Displacement—examines how urban renewal affected Southtown’s vibrant community and its history. The event series invites locals to reflect on memory, loss, and belonging. WCBU
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Tazewell County Clerk's Office was recognized yesterday with a Clearinghouse Award from the U.S. Election Assistance Commission for using new election security tools. The office changed badge rules to protect volunteer privacy — making it the first in Illinois to earn this honor. Peoria Journal Star
- ➤ Official election results show that political newcomer Alex Carmona won the 2nd District by defeating Estrella Diaz by 47 votes and incumbent Andre Allen won a tight race in the 4th District against Jamie Messmore. The results were certified Tuesday two weeks after the April 1 election to count mail-in ballots—making these the only competitive council races amid largely clear wins. Peoria Journal Star
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The IHSA board extended the contract at Peoria's Louisville Slugger Sports Complex to host the state softball finals until 2028 after a meeting on Monday. Next year the tournament will change from a multi-weekend format to a single weekend event — the 2025 finals are scheduled for June 6-7 and June 13-14. Pekin Daily Times
- ➤ The Illinois High School Association approved a contract extension that will keep the state softball finals at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex in Peoria through 2028—continuing its run as the event venue since 2021. The finals will adopt a single-weekend format starting in 2026. WMBD
- ➤ The Peoria Rivermen hosted the 7th-seeded Evansville Thunderbolts on Wednesday night at Carver Arena in the SPHL semifinals after sweeping the Quad City Storm last week—aiming for back-to-back titles. They will play Game Two in Evansville on Friday and, if needed, Game Three in Peoria to meet the winner of the series between the Birmingham Bulls and the Knoxville Ice Bears. WMBD
