- ➤ Neighborhood House in Peoria recovered a stolen van used for youth programs but it was damaged beyond repair — the organization will need to raise $60,000 for a new vehicle or cut back its services. 25 News Now
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The rooftop of an abandoned building on West Farmington Road in Peoria collapsed in on itself Tuesday, causing a temporary gas leak—fire crews quickly shut it off and no one was hurt. 25 News Now
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information on the 2016 homicide of 56-year-old John Frisch whose skull was recovered in June 2017 from the Illinois River and whose torso was found last November in Schuyler County to contact authorities because the case remains unsolved. - ➤ On Tuesday night, four men in a car fired paintball guns at the Peoria nonprofit JOLT Harm Reduction’s Sheridan Road building and one participant got bruises while extra cleaning work was needed but no charges will be filed—JOLT now offers support and invites the vandals to learn about its work. - ➤ Thirty-year-old James R. Holtsclaw was charged with aggravated battery for a downtown Peoria stabbing that occurred on Saturday, April 12 at 1:35 p.m.—he will remain in custody following his detention hearing. Peoria County
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Beginning at 7 a.m. on April 21, Oak Street from SW Washington to SW Commercial Street will be closed through the intersection at Commercial Street as part of the Depot Street Construction Project, and the closure is expected to last through mid-summer, weather permitting (parking restrictions remain in effect and drivers should use State Street for on-street parking and Persimmon Street for lot access). - ➤ On Thursday, CityLink celebrated Passenger Appreciation Day by offering free rides on all fixed-route buses and hosting a free gift giveaway at the downtown Transit Center. Passengers visited 407 SW Adams Street between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to pick up items while supplies lasted and to honor former general manager Jerome Lilly—who passed away in 2007. WMBD
- ➤ Starting at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, April 21, Moss Avenue will be closed to all traffic between N Cooper Street and N Western Avenue during daytime hours for a reconstruction project that is expected to last two weeks weather permitting—flaggers will direct traffic and drivers should use alternative routes. - ➤ Peoria Rivermen had four players named to the All-SPHL first team—goaltender Colby Muise, defenseman Zach Wilkie, center Alec Baer, and winger Jordan Ernst; Muise set a record with a 1.68 goals-against average and eight shutouts while Wilkie led with top assists and points.
