GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Peoria City Council will discuss whether to continue a one-percent grocery tax on Tuesday as the state’s version expires January 1. The tax brings in about $5 million a year for public services — and households may pay between $72 and $144 annually — while other tax options would require steep increases.  WMBD

SPORTS NEWS

  • Peoria Rivermen lost 3-1 in Evansville on Friday as the Thunderbolts swept them in the semifinals, and a video review ruled that Braydon Barker did not score when the play was in question—this loss marks the team’s first second-round defeat since 2023. Head coach Jean-Guy Trudel, who led the team to 40 wins, was named SPHL Coach of the Year, and Evansville will next play for its first-ever President’s Cup title against the series winner from Birmingham Bulls and Knoxville Ice Bears.  WMBD
