ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Multiple people were injured after a two-vehicle crash involving an ambulance near Knoxville and War Memorial in Peoria just after 6:15 p.m. on Monday — three individuals were injured and police have not released details. WMBD
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Officers arrested 30-year-old Dillon Howard on Monday after he allegedly stole a forklift near the Peoria Civic Center—his stolen machine was found abandoned in the 300-block of Romeo B. Garrett—and he was taken to Peoria County Jail. WMBD
- ➤ Peoria Police arrested 24-year-old Zhyon E. Parkman on Monday at about 11:40 p.m. near the 1100 block of MacQueen Avenue after a traffic stop led officers to find a loaded handgun in his car—he now faces charges including aggravated weapon possession, obstructing an officer, driving on a revoked license, unlawful possession of cannabis, and a traffic violation. 25 News Now
- ➤ Peoria Police arrested 30-year-old Dillon T. Howard after a forklift was stolen from the Civic Center's loading dock area around 12:25 p.m. Monday—Howard was found in the 600 block of RB Garrett after the forklift was recovered from a parking lot in the 300 block of Romeo B. - ➤ Peoria City Council unanimously approved a 1% local grocery tax to fill a $5 million gap created by the ending state tax. Councilmember Zach Oyler called the vote purely political—he voted yes so he can call for a reconsideration on May 13. Peoria Journal Star
- ➤ Chuck Grayeb ended his 24-year tenure on the Peoria City Council after his last regular meeting on Tuesday—newcomer Alex Carmona is set to take his District 2 seat at a special meeting on May 6. Grayeb, who ran for mayor before endorsing Rita Ali for a second term, reflected on his work to protect heritage neighborhoods and improve downtown growth while stressing the importance of addressing crime for a safer city. - ➤ Washington city council approved a 1-percent local grocery sales tax in a 6—2 vote to replace the state tax expiring next January and generate about $500,000 in revenue, transferring tax control to the city—a measure already adopted by nearby communities. WMBD
- ➤ Peoria city council approved a 1% local grocery tax Tuesday night to replace a state tax that expires at the end of the year—council members said the measure is needed to prevent a $5 million revenue shortfall and avoid cuts to vital services.
