BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Brothers Jay and Shaun Schlosser purchased Pekin Country Club and plan to open the 18‐hole golf course to the public on Mondays and launch the restaurant by early May—discounted memberships will be available until Memorial Day weekend with new members paying $400 a month for the first year. - ➤ Ace Hardware launched Ace YardRx, a new subscription service that sends tailored lawn care products based on yard size, grass type and location. Homeowners can sign up through their Ace Rewards account+ and receive seasonal treatments delivered from local stores. Pekin Daily Times
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Aaron Rossi, former CEO of Reditus Labs, pleaded guilty to one count each of healthcare and wire fraud for false billing during the COVID pandemic — he also pleaded guilty to possessing banned items in Peoria County Jail and will face sentencing in July with potential decades of prison time and substantial fines. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Senator Dick Durbin said in a video on Wednesday he will not run for re-election and will finish his term ending in 2026—after serving since 1996. Illinois leaders praise his work for civil rights, working families, and fairness. WMBD
- ➤ Washington approved an intergovernmental agreement on Monday that lets Peoria loan its George Washington bust for the city’s bicentennial celebration—loaning the piece from April 23 until Sept. 5. The bust, created by sculptor Avard Fairbanks and stored at the Peoria Riverfront Museum, will be shown around the Washington District Library area. Pekin Daily Times
- ➤ Peoria City Council held a first reading of a proposed ordinance to raise towing fees from $175 to $185 at its regular Tuesday meeting. Towing operators requested a larger increase up to $250 due to rising equipment costs—some council members worry the change could burden drivers already facing hardship. WCBU
- ➤ Peoria entered an intergovernmental agreement to loan its George Washington bust to Washington for the bicentennial celebration marking 200 years this August. The heavy sculpture will be on display from April 23 until Sept 5 near the Washington District Library at Five Points Community Center + the move was approved by a 7-1 vote by Washington's city council.
