EDUCATION NEWS

  • Elementary and middle school students from Peoria competed in the District Speech and Debate Championship Saturday at Manual High School as former boxing icon Buster Douglas cheered and awarded winners (he famously knocked out Mike Tyson) while urging the students to stay confident.  WCBU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Peoria Park Board voted 5-2 to postpone an agreement to expand the right-of-way of the Rock Island Greenway Trail, leaving a deal to preserve Detweiller Marina's green space in limbo after missing its April 23 deadline — the board may revisit the proposal on May 13.  25 News Now

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Peoria Rivermen beat the Knoxville Ice Bears 5+0 in Game 4 of the SPHL Presidents Cup semifinals Friday night in Tennessee. JM Piotrowski scored twice and Nick Latinovich made 21 saves as Game 5 is set for today at 3:15 p.m. in Peoria, and the winner will face Evansville.  WMBD
