ECONOMY NEWS

  • Peoria International Airport reported a record 71,988 passengers in March, breaking the previous high of 68,447 set in July 2019 + officials noted that counts have exceeded pre-COVID monthly averages since June 2024.  Pekin Daily Times

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Illinois students seeking higher education now have a new loan option that does not require a co-signer—called the Funding U Illinois No-Cosigner Loan. The program, offered in partnership with the Treasurer's office, Funding U, and ISL Education Lending, provides fixed rates from 7.99% to 9.49% for state residents attending in-state public or private nonprofit colleges.  Pekin Daily Times

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Traffic delays are expected today and over the next two weeks—workers will close lanes on the Murray Baker Bridge on I-74 daily from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for expansion joints work. Additionally, Center Street under the Cedar Street Bridge extension will be closed for six weeks while painting is completed, and Edmund Street will reopen when the work is finished.  WMBD
  • Peoria officials have scheduled the fourth demolition event on the old McClugage Bridge span for Wednesday when the largest blast will sever the steel beams from the main truss section and close U.S. Route 150 at about 9:30 a.m.—traffic will be rerouted with no stops allowed while viewers stay outside the secured area.  WMBD
