- ➤ OfficeMax in East Peoria at 200 Riverside Drive will close by June—customers can shop until the end of May—and details on employee transfers and the final closing day have not been provided. Pekin Daily Times
- ➤ A small shopping center with Dutch Bros Coffee and a second restaurant is proposed for the busy corner of University Street and War Memorial Drive on a long-vacant 4.5-acre lot. The Peoria Planning and Zoning Commission approved the plan with two access points only — a decision that may lead the developer to seek alternatives if traffic issues persist — and the city council will decide on May 27. - ➤ Peoria Police reported a 30% drop in shootings through April with 14 incidents versus 20 last year, 15 shooting victims compared to 22, and only two homicides instead of four while recovered weapons stayed steady. WMBD
- ➤ A 21-year-old man was arrested in Peoria early Thursday morning after ten shots were fired near Forrest Hill and Knoxville at about 1:15 a.m.—Police found him inside a house near Archer and California and charged him with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and No FOID. - ➤ Two Peoria-area robotics teams returned from the world championships in Houston and competed in the FIRST Lego League Challenge; the Energy Wizards from Dunlap Middle School — a team of seven — brought home a finalist trophy in the innovation category by designing a method to save about half a million dollars each year. The teams plan to build on their success next season while the Lightning Bots placed 31st in the autonomous robot category. WMBD

- ➤ Starting this month, city crews will begin green infrastructure restoration work in several areas including the Warehouse District, SW Washington, SW Adams, and along N MacArthur Highway—activities will involve soil and plant removals, soil amendments, and new plantings.
