  • On Saturday, a motorcycle driver was injured when his bike unexpectedly lost power on the ramp from westbound I-74 to University Street—he was taken to a local hospital.  WMBD

CULTURE NEWS

  • Los Cabos Cantina and Grill — a longtime supporter of Cinco de Mayo celebrations — is hosting a family-friendly event with live music, an outdoor grill, a mechanical bull, and face painting today from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Meanwhile, Chicago canceled its parade due to deportation fears.  25 News Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildlife Prairie Park officials announced a $1.5 million plan to expand the park with a new RV campground—each site will have a concrete pad and hook-ups—and a swimming beach while renovating an 1800s stone house and relocating the Bison Hump Pump Track. The park approved a financing plan using fundraising and borrowing, and the Peoria County Board will vote this week on a special use permit that will let the project finish by March.  WMBD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Peoria will spend $77 million on salaries and $43.3 million on benefits for city employees in 2025, making wage costs about 42% of its $288 million budget—of the 50 highest compensated employees, 49 are police or fire personnel while City Manager Patrick Urich, with a $220,149.91 base salary, ranks 23rd.  Peoria Journal Star

  • A Livability study identified five Illinois cities among the Top 100 Best Places to Live based on nearly 100 factors like economy, housing, and education, with Naperville ranking the highest and Peoria making the list for the third consecutive year—highlighting local appeal.
