- ➤ City officials sealed a new time capsule at City Hall Tuesday morning, preserving newspapers, photos, and mementos including a symbolic buckeye to connect past, present, and future. Items from the 1897 capsule can be viewed on the second floor until May 29. 25 News Now
- ➤ Peoria hosts the Susan G. Komen More Than Pink Walk Saturday at Metro Centre at 4700 N. University Street—expected to draw over a thousand participants including 200 to 300 breast cancer survivors while aiming to raise $250,000 for research and patient care. WMBD
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ OSF HealthCare's Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship program now includes a cardiology track that lets fellows rotate through subspecialties and general clinics statewide. Applications will be accepted until June 1, with mentoring, clinical training, and skills assessments to boost their expertise. WMBD
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Illinois Housing Development Authority is asking community members for input on the 2027 Illinois Housing Blueprint. Residents may complete an online survey by Friday, July 31 or attend a listening session in Peoria at the NEXT Innovation Center on June 17 (10 a.m. to noon). WMBD
- ➤ Washington city council approved changes in the city code that ban synthetic Kratom sales and restrict natural Kratom sales to people under 21 (including labeling requirements), and businesses may sell current inventory for 45 days before the new rules take effect. WMBD
- ➤ Peoria State Representative Ryan Spain filed HB5738 that calls for a 6-month gas sales tax holiday to lower costs for drivers. The proposal comes as Illinois plans to raise the gas tax from 49.6 to 66.6 cents per gallon on Jul. 1. WMBD

- ➤ Washington banned synthetic kratom sales while allowing lab-tested natural versions and restricting store access for buyers under 21; the new rule will take effect in 45 days, giving businesses time to adjust inventory. WCBU
- ➤ A 25News producer at 37 survived a stroke in December 2025 after receiving quick EMS and OSF HealthCare treatment in Peoria; he returned to work six weeks later with no lingering symptoms. Doctors remind residents to call emergency services immediately if stroke signs appear. 25 News Now
- ➤ Aldi stores in Illinois removed 2,800 cases of Specially Selected crème brûlée desserts after an FDA report from April 28 warned they may contain glass fragments — consumers should return the product for a refund or discard it.
