- ➤ The nation’s first botulism museum — housed in a historic home on Moss Avenue — displays 13 art exhibits based on curator Jane Talkington’s book about the disease’s deadly history. Guided tours run on Saturdays by appointment at 1311 W. Moss Avenue with a 45-minute tour priced at $20 per person. WCBU
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Congressman Eric Sorensen introduced two bipartisan bills to boost rural broadband access by reauthorizing the USDA ReConnect Program and offering federal grant assistance for rural communities. He said both measures—set to be part of an upcoming farm bill—will improve internet service for telehealth and precision farming. WMBD
- ➤ The new Peoria City Council was sworn in Tuesday night — retaining most of its previous members but adding City Treasurer Jim Montelongo and District Two councilman Alex Carmona — with Mayor Rita Ali beginning her second term. She said the council will work together on the budget to improve housing and quality of life for residents — a goal echoed by the new members. WMBD
- ➤ Washington City Council on May 5 approved bids totaling nearly $1 million for road repairs on several city roads — including $356,188 from motor fuel tax funds for fixing the structurally troubled Candlewood Bridge.
