- ➤ Peoria’s Mayor Rita Ali met with local youth at the Role Model Mixer on Wednesday as 100 mentors from fields like banking, baking, and broadcasting connected with students to share advice and support their dreams. The event was funded by PNC Bank and offered opportunities (such as outings to concerts and the riverfront) for continued mentoring. 25 News Now

- ➤ A well-known bar and grill at Campustown near Bradley University closed its doors on May 8th. Restaurant owner Ryan Hunt said the decision was made with a heavy heart and thanked customers and staff—calling them the backbone of the business. WCBU
- ➤ Bond Eye Associates, a locally owned optometry practice that has served the community since 1981 at its Peoria and Pekin locations, announced it will close on June 27 due to rising costs and lower insurance reimbursements. The practice will help patients transfer their records and advises them to contact their insurance companies for new providers. Pekin Daily Times

- ➤ Peoria Police are investigating the armed robbery of a garbage truck driver—who was pulled from his truck at gunpoint on South Western Avenue at 5:49 a.m. Tuesday—and he was robbed of his wallet and hit, leaving him with minor injuries and taken to a local hospital. 25 News Now

- ➤ The Peoria County Board is appointing Branden Martin as the new county treasurer. He will begin his work on July 14. Peoria County
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Greg Neubert from Kewanee and three other patients suffered lifelong pain after non-absorbable sutures were mistakenly used during prostate surgeries at Carle Health in Peoria, causing ongoing urinary problems and daily discomfort. The hospital admitted liability in February while Neubert remains in a legal battle to learn why the error happened and to seek compensation. 25 News Now
- ➤ The Susan G. Komen Memorial Affiliate is hosting the More Than Pink Walk on Saturday, May 10 at 8 a.m. at the Metro Centre in Peoria to celebrate 40 years of raising breast cancer awareness and supporting survivors.
