ECONOMY NEWS

  • Area drivers in Peoria are seeing rising gas prices this week, with unleaded averaging $4.94 on Monday after an 8.0 cent jump; GasBuddy data shows prices are $1.63 higher than a year ago + AAA confirms similar averages in the Peoria and Pekin metro area.  WMBD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Illinois law bans recording in private spaces without consent, and legal expert Dremain Moore says Meta’s smart glasses may lead to legal issues if used to capture footage without permission. Law enforcement and lawmakers are expected to uphold these privacy rules to protect residents.  Pekin Daily Times
  • Peoria will complete the downtown traffic switch today at 10 a.m. as Jefferson Avenue — between Walnut and Fayette — converts to two-way traffic, weather permitting. The change builds on the Adams Street update and is part of a $19 million project to improve access and slow down motorists.  WCBU

HEALTH NEWS

  • OSF Healthcare announced on Monday that its partnership with the St. Jude affiliate network will end on June 30 when the Children’s Hospital and the College of Medicine will operate independently. The hospital stressed that patient care remains unchanged — continuing its specialized treatments here in the community.  WMBD
  • Illinois consumers are advised to discard DAISY BRAND headcheese products produced on Jan. 20 after a FSIS listeria alert; three illnesses have been reported and refrigerators should be cleaned to prevent cross-contamination.  Pekin Daily Times
  • Illinois health officials warn that headcheese produced by Crawford Sausage Co. may be contaminated with Listeria (three people have fallen ill) following an alert issued May 9, and consumers with DAISY BRAND items bearing a MAR 26 use-by date are urged to discard them and clean refrigerators.  Peoria Journal Star

  • Peoria Chiefs announced a new Suites for Veterans program that will provide free luxury suites with parking and food service at Dozer Park for veterans starting in June.
