- ➤ Peoria Zoo announced new addition Fitz, a one-year-old reticulated giraffe born on April 2 at Memphis Zoo and now finishing quarantine before joining the herd. He will soon join two female giraffes—Vivian and Emy—bringing fresh energy to the exhibit. WMBD
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Illinois Supreme Court said it is unclear when it will rule on former deputy Sean Grayson's appeal for pretrial release in the murder case of Sonya Massey, with his trial set for October in Peoria — his attorney said Grayson has complied with court orders and needs release for cancer treatment. - ➤ Live Nation announced that starting May 21 tickets for select shows will cost $30 as part of its $30 Ticket to Summer sale—Illinois venues such as the Peoria Civic Center, Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre and Huntington Bank Pavilion will offer discounted access. Pekin Daily Times
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Peoria Department of Public Works will host an open-house meeting on Wednesday, May 21 at the Gateway Building—200 NE Water Street—from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. for residents to give input on updating the Bike Master Plan to make the city more bike-friendly. City of Peoria
- ➤ The city council approved more than $41,000 in TIF funds to keep the PeoriaCorps workforce program running for its current class of five, who train young adults in green infrastructure and public works. Council members stressed that local support was needed after Serve Illinois paused the program following federal funding cuts & the city had relied on settlement funds from Edwards Power Plant. WMBD

- ➤ Peoria-area girls track athletes secured spots for the state finals (May 22-24) at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston after top performers and those meeting qualifying marks advanced from nine sectionals held last week.
