  • A Peoria man with a troubled past will launch a free six-month program called From Street Life 2 Straight Life on July 8th—adults will meet weekly using a point system to encourage attendance, volunteer work, and staying out of trouble. His non-profit, Second Chance at Life, has partnered with local organizations to help homeless individuals and those who have been incarcerated.  25 News Now

CRIME NEWS

  • A Peoria mom pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and aggravated battery charges after allegedly abusing twin toddlers and causing one toddler’s death — she will remain in jail until her trial, with her next court date set for July 3 at 1 p.m.  25 News Now
  • Peoria Police stopped a vehicle near W. Marengo and N. Lavelle Court on Wednesday morning, discovered a loaded handgun with a magazine inside, and arrested a 16-year-old male for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, lacking a FOID card, and defacing firearm identification marks before taking him to the Juvenile Detention Center.  WMBD

  • Peoria Police Department held its annual ceremony outside City Hall on Wednesday to honor 15 fallen officers; Chief Eric Echevarria expressed gratitude for his officers’ safety this past year and stressed that ongoing training and support programs help keep the force ready—reminding the community of their sacrifice over the years.  25 News Now

HEALTH NEWS

  • OSF Healthcare broke ground on Meadowview Behavioral Hospital on Wood Sage Road—US HealthVest joined the ceremony last Thursday. The new facility will offer inpatient and outpatient services for adults, adolescents and seniors while treating depression, anxiety, trauma and substance use disorders, with construction finishing in the first half of next year.  WMBD
