COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Friday at the Gateway Building, Peoria honored the fire academy graduates, which included 14 local recruits and four from neighboring areas (class of 2026). They will soon begin their assignments in the community, marking a new chapter in local firefighting.  25 News Now
  • Former WMBD-TV morning anchor Sheridan Hertig, who spent 10 years in Peoria, will join KWQC TV6 News in Davenport as morning co-anchor and reporter beginning June 3. She expressed excitement about building new connections while staying true to her Midwest roots.  Peoria Journal Star
  • Peoria Police returned to the Dunkin’ Donuts roof on Knoxville Avenue Friday morning to raise funds for the Special Olympics of Illinois — aiming to exceed last year’s $5,000 and build stronger community ties.  25 News Now

  • Rik Edgar stepped down as general manager of the Peoria Civic Center on Friday to pursue another job opportunity, and interim GM Beau Sutherland will lead the venue until Legends Global hires a permanent replacement by the end of August.  WCBU

HEALTH NEWS

  • Carle Health Greater Peoria Oncology will host free, walk-in cancer screenings and mammograms on Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Carle Health Methodist North, 2338 W. Van Winkle Way in Peoria (funded by the Carle Health Center for Philanthropy and the IDPH Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program).  WMBD
  • OSF Cancer Institute patients held a garden-planting party Friday afternoon to grow herbs and vegetables for the teaching kitchen—which offers cooking classes to support nutrition during and after cancer treatment. Extra produce not used in the classes will be given to patients in need.  25 News Now
