ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Peoria family was displaced by a fire Monday afternoon at a two-story home on W. Lake Avenue and NE Scenic Drive with $90,000 in damage caused by faulty electrical wiring—firefighters worked quickly to stop the fire from spreading while two adults and two children safely evacuated.  WMBD

BUSINESS NEWS

  • PNC Bank signed a new lease to remain in its historic downtown building until 2031. City officials and bank leaders said clear discussions about redevelopment plans led to the agreement and the bank will upgrade its rooftop sign in the coming months.  WCBU

CRIME NEWS

  • A third juvenile from a Peoria County gang-related case will be tried as an adult after a grand jury indicted Skylar Jordan, 17, under RICO for violent gang involvement and unlawful use of weapons—police said he is linked to multiple murders, shootings and weapons violations.  WCBU
  • Peoria police arrested two men—Titus Alexander, 32, and Mitchell Smith, 43—on federal charges for allegedly carrying out a series of seven armed spa robberies from late January to May 17. A detention hearing will be held today for the suspects.  WMBD

CULTURE NEWS

  • Grammy-winning metal band Dream Theater will perform at the Peoria Civic Center on Sept. 22 in support of their new album 'Parasomnia'—presale tickets begin on May 22 and general sales open on May 23.  Peoria Journal Star
  • Dr. Mae Gilliland interviewed Kindall Reuschel about Harmonize Peoria’s Garage Band Open Stage—a free series where artists under 21 perform using donated instruments and gain weekly stage experience. Reuschel said the program will link with Peoria Music Live to build a creative space for young musicians—offering essential performance opportunities.  WCBU

  • More than 600 college students began a 12 week summer internship with Big Yellow in Peoria on Tuesday at the Edwards Demonstration and Learning Center. The program gives students hands on experience in engineering, accounting, and supply chains — which could lead to future job opportunities.  WMBD
