- ➤ With Memorial Day marking the start of summer, Peoria-area public pools are set to open soon to help residents beat the heat in summer 2025. - ➤ At 3 a.m. on Sunday, an accidental kitchen fire at 817 West Meadows Place left four adults and six pets displaced as firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, rescued trapped cats, and took one person with minor injuries to a local hospital — the damage is estimated at $20,000. 25 News Now

- ➤ Peoria Police released three photos of missing 29-year-old Allison M. Baldwin, last seen near the 200 block of NE Glen Oak on May 21—and her friend reported her missing on May 25, asking anyone with information to contact police. 25 News Now
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Ameren said that starting in June electric bills for Illinois customers will rise by 18% to 22%, meaning a typical bill could increase by about $37.62 to $45.98 until September. The jump is driven by a new supply charge of 12 cents per kilowatt hour—up from 8.2 cents in the winter—and prices will drop in October when winter rates resume. Pekin Daily Times

- ➤ After Memorial Day weekend, several Peoria road projects will begin affecting local traffic. West Peoria's Rohmann and Sterling Avenues will be closed Tuesday for one week for maintenance while starting Wednesday, Tremont's Allentown Road over I-155 will be shut until mid-September and Peoria’s Warren and Widenham Streets will close under a sewer control project; lane closures at Route 29 and Cedar Hills Drive will start Thursday—drivers should follow posted detours. - ➤ The Peoria Heights Village Board fired Fire Chief Dan Decker after voting not to renew his contract on Saturday—trustees cited concerns over insufficient training funds and equipment certification issues while some firefighters supported his leadership.
