- ➤ Alexander’s Steakhouse is set to become the final location as its Normal storefront at 1503 E. College Ave. closes at the end of May after serving the community for over four decades — leaving its location at 100 Alexander Ave. as the sole dining spot. Pekin Daily Times
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices in Peoria fell 8.0 cents over the last week with Tuesday’s average at $4.82, according to GasBuddy and AAA Illinois. The decline comes after falling oil prices & optimism about a potential U.S.-Iran agreement eased pressure at the pumps. WMBD
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Peoria City Council member Kiran Velpula announced the Greater Peoria Healthcare Education Consortium, uniting local schools+health institutions to provide a clear pathway into healthcare careers. Launched last week, the initiative aims to grow the workforce and support local economic development. WCBU
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Peoria approved contracts with CORE Construction and Terra Engineering for a riverfront amphitheater that will use an $11 million donation from the Hengst Foundation. Officials are waiting for final design plans — key for scheduling construction once site improvements are estimated. Peoria Journal Star
- ➤ Peoria Co. Sheriff’s Deputy Jack Evans, injured during a traffic stop earlier this year, was honored with the Hometown Hero Award by Acting US Attorney Greg Gilmore this month (he also received the Police Valor and Gold Star Awards). Evans is recovering and will return to duty soon. WMBD
