BUSINESS NEWS

  • Two local Peoria-area small businesses — Tres Rojas Winery in Washington and Sarah Beth's Homemade Dips in Hanna City — were inducted into the Illinois Made program Tuesday by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and the Office of Tourism as part of a 20-business statewide honor for local craftsmanship.  Pekin Daily Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Peoria Police said 29-year-old Allison Baldwin, who was last seen on May 21 in the 200 block of NE Glen Oak and reported missing on May 25, has been found safe—she is known to frequent downtown Peoria.  WMBD

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Ameren Illinois customers will face an 18%-22% rise in their summer electric bills + adding about $37.62 to $45.98 to an average monthly bill for a home using 10,000 kilowatt-hours, according to Citizens Utility Board's Jim Chilsen. He said the increase comes from higher reserve power costs set by MISO and advised customers to use Ameren's payment plans and check for safe energy supplier offers.  WCBU

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Green infrastructure restoration work has begun in the City’s green areas—workers are removing soil and plant material, amending soil, and planting native species along key streets such as NE Perry, NE Madison, and NE Monroe avenues. Work will soon start at University Street and Main Street and will bring temporary parking restrictions and sidewalk closures.  City of Peoria

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Renovations to the Peoria County Courthouse Plaza began Tuesday with $6.76 million in ARPA funds to add new fountains, LED lighting, benches, picnic tables, and updated landscaping that will affect parking and pedestrian access. Fencing was installed Tuesday morning — the courthouse entrance on NE Jefferson remained open while drivers and pedestrians faced reduced parking and limited access to the WWI and WWII Memorials until work is completed by fall.  WMBD
  • Before fall, the Peoria Park District will use a $6.5 million state grant to renovate its Golf Learning Center, adding a two-level facility with 21 hitting bays & tracking technology for competitive play. A new restaurant and bar area is planned as part of the upgrade that will bring virtual golf games including The Masters to attract more visitors.  25 News Now
  • Illinois lawmakers passed Senate Bill 1195 — known as Anna’s Law — to require police officers to take special training on handling sexual assault cases and avoiding conflicts of interest before their swearing-in and for recertification. The bill passed unanimously in the House and Senate and now awaits the governor’s signature.  WMBD
  • Homefield Energy will raise its electricity supply price from 10.3 cents to about 12.9 cents per kilowatt-hour for Peoria municipal aggregation customers from July until early December, which will likely increase summer bills. City and County officials will rebid the contract in the fall and send letters with opt-out instructions + Ameren has filed for a June 1 summer rate estimated at 12.2 cents per kilowatt-hour.  City of Peoria

  • The 33rd River Cup men's golf championships will take place May 31 and June 1 at Lick Creek Golf Course in Pekin—featuring the best amateur golfers from Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties in team and individual match play events.
