ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Peoria firefighters and Ameren Gas responded at 9:20 a.m. to a gas leak at 8615 N. Knoxville Ave.—the Commerce Bank building—after a company hit an underground natural gas main; the leak caused an odor and the bank remained closed until repairs were complete. 25 News Now
- ➤ A bank building in North Peoria closed after a gas leak was reported just after 9:15 a.m. near Knoxville and Inverness—Peoria Fire and Ameren said crews found an underground natural gas main was struck, causing a strong odor but no fire. WMBD
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Peoria Art Guild will launch Art Without Boundaries, a free weekly art program for kids up to 17 starting in June at several local sites including the Shoppes of Grand Prairie, downtown, and the McClure library. Hundreds of children have already registered and the program will provide one-day bus passes to help with transportation—funded by a grant from the Community Foundation of Central Illinois. 25 News Now
- ➤ Peoria Public Schools students will begin the Mayor’s Youth Program—a paid eight‐week summer internship—on Monday, June 2 at 9 a.m. in Twin Towers Plaza Conference Room 420 at 456 Fulton St as they work on beautification projects such as planting, mulching, and litter removal and take part in Friday career exploration activities. - ➤ The Illinois Senate passed House Bill 1910 today, which would require public libraries to stock naloxone and have one trained staff member on duty at all hours. Gov. Pritzker is expected to sign the measure soon—this proposal was introduced by high school senior Jordan Henry from Elgin to help address opioid overdoses. WMBD
- ➤ A building in Peoria’s Warehouse District was approved for alcohol sales when the city council approved the site application on Tuesday. S and A Hospitality stated the Love Shack at Pop Up Chicken Shop will operate with separate point of sale systems to keep the businesses apart. WMBD
- ➤ Gov. JB Pritzker said he will veto any state budget that includes broad-based tax hikes on individuals, corporations — or the sales tax used to fund new spending, arguing such increases would harm working families. Lawmakers are in final negotiations for the FY26 budget amid falling revenue forecasts while business groups warn that targeted taxes could slow economic growth. WMBD
