- ➤ Hundreds gathered at the Peoria Zoo on Saturday morning for Party for the Planet, a conservation event to kick off the summer season and offer tips to protect local plants and animals. Families enjoyed hands-on activities from the Central Illinois Monarch Butterfly Task Force—highlighting pollination—and the Peoria Playhouse’s project using recycled materials to make bird feeders. 25 News Now
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Peoria's summer 2025 music lineup will feature rock bands, Grammy-winning blues artists and an R&B singer at local venues, including events at the Civic Center, Prairie Home Alliance Theater and Riverfront Festival Park. Key performances include Coheed and Cambria on June 4, Boney James on June 19 and other acts with tickets starting around $51 + prices varying by event. Pekin Daily Times
- ➤ On Saturday, the Peoria Art Guild hosted its second annual chalk art competition at the Shoppes of Grand Prairie where 37 artists of all ages had five hours to fill a pre-assigned square with summertime scenes—winners will be announced on the guild's website with prizes starting at $100. 25 News Now
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Illinois lawmakers passed the Prescription Drug Affordability Act to stop pharmacy benefit managers from steering patients to their own affiliated pharmacies and to levy fees for grants that help independent pharmacies—lawmakers say the changes could lower prescription drug costs. The bill cleared the Senate with bipartisan support and now waits for House concurrence before reaching Gov. JB Pritzker’s desk. WMBD
- ➤ The intersection of Adams Street and War Memorial Drive will be intermittently closed from June 2 through June 6 for steel beam removal from the old McClugage Bridge, with work occurring between 8:30 p.m. and 6 a.m. IDOT warns that each beam removal may delay traffic by about 20 minutes—drivers are advised to use alternate routes when possible. - ➤ Illinois boys track and field athletes competed on Saturday at O'Brien Field at Eastern Illinois University, and several Peoria-area finalists advanced from preliminary rounds on Thursday and Friday. - ➤ On Saturday, Dunlap won a 1-0 game over Limestone in the IHSA Class 3A regional championship when Michigan State signee Davis Weeks tossed a two‐hit game with 17 strikeouts and will face Morris at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the sectional semifinal—Washington beat Geneseo 5-2 after Carter Prina’s three‐run home run overcame a one‐run deficit and will play Joliet Catholic Academy at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in its sectional semifinal.
