ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Sunday morning, a sedan crashed into St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church on the 6000 block of N. University Street — one person was taken to the hospital and the building suffered extensive damage before officials later deemed it safe for services to resume.  25 News Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Peoria dropped 4.1 cents last week and now average $3.24, which is 9.6 cents lower than a month ago and 47.6 cents lower than last year, according to GasBuddy. AAA Illinois reported a $3.25 average in the Peoria/Pekin area—hinting at ongoing declines as wholesale costs ease.  WMBD

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A new study by SmartAsset ranks Peoria among the top 20 housing markets for first-time buyers and first for affordable home prices, noting that local home sale prices average about twice the median income. The research looked at 180 metro areas using factors such as inventory, competition, and long-term value *to guide buyers*.  Peoria Journal Star

  • 171 Peoria area high school baseball & softball players have been named for the all-star games in June; 99 baseball players will compete on June 17 at Dozer Park while 72 softball players are set for June 24 at Illinois Central College.  Pekin Daily Times
  • Team Tazwood swept the 33rd River Cup men's golf championships by beating Team Peoria 10.5—7.5 at Lick Creek Golf Course on May 31—June 1; the Tazwood seniors took two playoff holes to secure the win, marking their first full sweep since 2011.  Pekin Daily Times
