COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Peoria organizers announced that today the Moss Avenue Antique Sale and Festival will be held at Bradley University’s Olin Quad—after road construction forced a change from its usual route. The free event will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with 111 vendors, music, street food, and parking available on nearby side streets. WMBD
- ➤ The Peoria Park District announced several Juneteenth events at a recent news conference held at the Peoria Freedom and Remembrance Memorial Park that highlight black historical moments in the area. Today the first event is the Miss Juneteenth pageant at the Carver Center and the Juneteenth holiday will include Jubilee Day at Glen Oak Park + a car show, drone show, and food trucks operating from 1 to 9 p.m. WMBD
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 30-year-old Chillicothe woman died after a near head-on collision with a southbound mid-size truck on Route 29 between Peoria and Chillicothe Friday morning—emergency responders arrived at 6:46 a.m. and pronounced her dead at the scene by 8:15 a.m. WCBU
- ➤ A 30-year-old Chillicothe woman was killed in a head-on collision on Route 29 in Peoria Heights Friday morning—she struck another vehicle near Riverview Court, and the other driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Peoria Journal Star
- ➤ Early Friday morning, firefighters responded to a working fire at Peoria Pizza Works in Peoria Heights where the blaze broke out around 3:30 a.m.—Prospect Road between Lake Avenue and War Memorial Drive was closed until 6:05 a.m., and the cause and extent of damage were not determined. WMBD
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Judge Stephen Couri sentenced 19-year-old Peoria man Jared R. Williams to seven years in prison for fatally shooting 21-year-old Mason Loy in the August 2023 parking lot outside Laramie Liquors—Williams was convicted of second degree murder after shooting Loy four times despite prosecutors recommending a 20-year term. - ➤ Deziaah Hunter, 19, was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm for shooting 18-year-old Kenadee Wallenfang along Peoria’s Riverfront Tuesday afternoon+ she remains in custody pending trial. Peoria County

- ➤ Ben Zobrist, the 2016 World Series MVP and Eureka graduate, visited his former high school baseball team on Friday morning—delivering a surprise send-off as they prepared for the state finals in Champaign and later served as keynote speaker at the Peoria Sunday Morning League hall of fame banquet. - ➤ Illinois High School Association softball state finals for Classes 1A and 2A begin today at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex in Peoria.
