COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Peoria’s roads along the MacArthur Highway corridor will be restricted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 14 for the Ernestine Jackson Juneteenth Freedom Day Parade, which begins at noon south of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park — drivers are advised to follow marked detours when approaching the area — as parking limitations will also be enforced.  25 News Now

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters were called Monday afternoon to a home on W. MacQueen where unattended smoking material started a fire that displaced three adults and a dog, and crews put out the flames with temporary housing arranged by the Red Cross—no injuries were reported.  WMBD

CRIME NEWS

  • One man died and another was injured at Billie Jo’s Towing on West Lincoln Avenue when two men drove at high speed to force open the gate during a vehicle theft on Monday, and the stolen car was found abandoned in the 800 block of South Warren Street—Peoria police are investigating the reckless homicide with no suspects yet identified.  25 News Now
  • A Peoria County grand jury indicted two teens (Armarii A. Smith-Holley, 17, and Kendal E. Patterson, 18) on RICO charges for gang killings tied to crimes they allegedly committed in July 2022 with the Snakes street gang, with Patterson’s arraignment set for today and Smith-Holley’s on June 18.  25 News Now

  • The Peoria County Election Commission will mail new Voter Registration Cards to voters on Friday, June 13.  Peoria County

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 51st Steamboat Classic will be held on Saturday, June 14 in downtown Peoria with races beginning at 7 a.m. and packet pickup available at RC Outfitters on June 12 from 4-8 p.m. and June 13 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.—downtown streets will offer free parking while some intersections face restrictions.  Pekin Daily Times
