CRIME NEWS

  • A Hanna City man pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated DUI in a January 15th, 2023 crash on U.S. 150 near Peoria that killed an Edwards woman and seriously injured her preteen son—he was sentenced Wednesday to 26 years in prison.  Pekin Daily Times

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 35th Peoria Blues and Heritage Music Festival has announced a second round of artists — including Taj Farrant, Buckwheat Zydeco Jr., Maurice John Vaughn with Freddie Dixon and John Watkins, FrankBang, and Brandon Santini — with the event scheduled for Aug. 29-30 along the Peoria Riverfront. The festival will also feature live music, late-night events at Kenny’s Westside Pub, and local food, craft beer, and art vendors.  25 News Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, Mayor Rita Ali delivered the 2025 State of the City Address from 11–1 p.m. — the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce hosted business and civic leaders to review last year and plan future steps — and the event was followed by a community awards presentation.  25 News Now
  • Peoria Mayor Rita Ali delivered her State of the City address Thursday in the Civic Center ballroom and detailed plans to boost housing, public safety, road projects, and downtown business growth — noting a new senior housing project and Expo Gardens purchase to help ease the housing shortage while shooting incidents fell 36% since last year. She added that investments in areas like education, healthcare, and police equipment are key to Peoria’s future.  WMBD
  • Governor J-B Pritzker kicked off his re-election campaign for a third term on Thursday—holding rallies in Chicago, Rockford, Peoria and Springfield. He outlined plans to grow the state's economy, invest in infrastructure and expand workforce training to support working families.  WMBD
