ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Fireworks sparked a fire that destroyed two apartments at Braves Court near John Gwynn Jr. Avenue in South Peoria on Friday night & firefighters rescued three cats and cut a ventilation hole in the roof to release smoke while no injuries were reported. WMBD
- ➤ Peoria firefighters responded near Ellis and Armstrong at 12:45 a.m. today to fight a fire that destroyed one detached garage and damaged a neighboring garage—melting its siding, with no injuries reported. WMBD
- ➤ On Friday morning in Central Peoria, one man was injured in a fireworks incident and taken to the hospital after firefighters provided Advanced Life Support care — AMT transported him to OSF Emergency Department — as officials reminded residents that fireworks are banned by city ordinance. WMBD
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Peoria police are investigating an overnight shooting in South Peoria as officers located one victim near Blaine + Howett Streets at 4:15 a.m. today. WMBD
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At a ceremony in Decatur on Wednesday, State Treasurer Michael Frerichs returned a purple heart that belonged to Army Private John L. Moore to his brother and granddaughter as part of Operation Purple Heart. Moore (a Peoria native wounded in D-Day and Rhineland) kept his medal safe in a deposit box until it was returned, and Frerichs said 15 medals have been restored (with 9 still unclaimed). WMBD
