  • Bradley University President James Shadid plans to restore Lydia Moss Bradley’s former home on Moss Avenue so it can host community and university events — the three-story mansion built in 1856 and first occupied in 1858 has fallen into disrepair and was previously rented to faculty.  WMBD

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • One resident escaped a house fire in South Peoria near Blaine-Starr early Sunday morning after firefighters responded quickly, extinguished the flames, and prevented them from spreading to nearby homes.  WMBD

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A Pekin restaurant across from the Tazewell County Courthouse announced it will close by July 13 or when supplies run out due to rising costs for wages and goods—its husband-wife owners thanked customers for their support over the past three years.  Pekin Daily Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Kevin Boyce, 32, was booked on weapons charges after he allegedly fired a gun on Saturday morning in South Peoria — officers responded to shots fired on the 600 block of Western Avenue near Howett and Blaine, and he now faces charges including aggravated discharge of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, unlawful possession by a felon and possession of a weapon and ammunition without a FOID card.  WMBD
  • The Peoria County Coroner responded to a home in the 1000 block of South Shelley Street at 10 p.m. Saturday when officials found an unidentified Caucasian male aged 25 to 35 who was about 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10 tall and weighed roughly 145 pounds with strawberry blond hair, a red beard and a black t-shirt, and the office urged anyone with useful information to call 309-669-2000.  WMBD

  • Peoria City's men's soccer team clinched a USL2 playoff spot despite losing 2-1 to Springfield FC at Shea Stadium—securing their postseason berth for the third time in four seasons. They will play a regular season finale on July 12 against Sunflower State and begin playoffs on July 18.  Pekin Daily Times
  • East Peoria native David Perkins won his first PGA Tour Americas event on Sunday at the Explore NB Open in New Brunswick—he shot 19-under par, earned $40,500 by beating Tripp Kinney on the final hole, and is now in line to lead the Fortinet Cup standings.  Pekin Daily Times
  • Readers can now vote for Bradley basketball’s Mount Rushmore as sports reporters and fans share their top picks such as Hersey Hawkins and Chet Walker—vote closes at noon Monday, July 14. The poll allows picking up to four players to finalize a reader-chosen all-star team from decades of Bradley history.  Pekin Daily Times
