ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • East Peoria dentist Dr. Noel Liu died Monday evening in a skydiving accident at Skydive Chicago in Ottawa — the NTSB and FAA are aiding local authorities in investigating the crash.  WMBD

CRIME NEWS

  • The Peoria Art Guild said a small painting of a cow with 'Annie' behind it was stolen on July 7 from its gallery after surveillance captured a suspect who tried to sell it at a local pawn shop — police are still investigating the case.  Peoria Journal Star
  • Daniel Pace, 43, was sentenced on Wednesday to 60 years in prison for setting his girlfriend on fire at the Landmark Apartment Complex in August 2022 — the attack left her with burns across 30 percent of her body and significant lasting hardships, prosecutors said.  WMBD

  • Bradley University president James Shadid said his first 100 days were busy as he shared plans to enhance campus facilities—replacing a former restaurant and renovating dorms and dining areas with a $2 million state grant—while telling the school’s history better and weighing changes to federal student loan rules. He said he is working with local leaders and planning for a full school year as orientations start mid-July and he addresses community concerns over visa issues for international students.  WCBU

  • Illinois residents planning summer outings can use a guide that lists hours, parking, and ticket prices for nine state zoos — for instance, Peoria Zoo is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with adult tickets at $12.50 and children’s tickets at $9, while other zoos across the state offer varied admissions and parking details.  Pekin Daily Times

  • Pivotal Housing Partners and Peoria Opportunities Foundation have announced they will build MacArthur Senior Flats, a 52‐unit senior living complex on Peoria's Southside for residents aged 55 and older; construction will start next spring with occupancy set for 2027.
