ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ In June, major employers including Mars Wrigley, Nordstrom and OSF HealthCare reported nearly 1,800 planned layoffs statewide due to restructuring, closures and mergers. Several WARN notices announced future job losses beginning Aug. 4 and continuing into mid-June — a shift that will affect workers at firms such as CareerBuilder and Tyson Foods. Pekin Daily Times

- ➤ Local state leaders, including Rep. Jehan Gordon-Booth and Sen. Dave Koehler, partner with local groups to offer backpacks, uniforms, supplies and sports physicals to students at the One Peoria Back-To-School and Health Fair held today from noon to 4 p.m. at Glen Oak Park — the event provides essential items for kindergarten through high school students as they prepare for the new school year. 25 News Now

- ➤ On Monday morning, traffic on Moss Avenue changed as construction began on its north side between North Institute Place and North Western Avenue—westbound vehicles were diverted onto the new pavement while the street continued with one-way westbound traffic. 25 News Now
- ➤ On Monday before 7:45 p.m., the Illinois Department of Transportation blew up several concrete piers from the old eastbound McClugage Bridge as the sixth demolition in a project to build a new wider bridge and walking path. A local resident said the blast was very fast—residents want IDOT to share better timing for future events. 25 News Now

- ➤ Illinois American Water reported that some water testing sites in the city had high lead levels after 14 out of 103 samples exceeded 15 parts per billion. The company advised residents to flush taps and use cold water to reduce lead exposure — these steps can help lower health risks. 25 News Now
- ➤ Hartford Bakery Inc. is voluntarily recalling six lots of Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf bread from Kroger and Walmart in Illinois after undeclared hazelnuts were found in about 883 loaves—this recall poses a risk to those with nut allergies. Consumers are urged to return the bread for a full refund and call 812-425-4642 with questions, though no major injuries have been reported. Pekin Daily Times

- ➤ Peoria City Soccer will travel to Des Moines this Friday to play Minneapolis City SC in the first round of the USL Two Central Conference playoffs— the team finished second in the Great Plains Division and reached the national championship game last season.
