  • Peoria residents have a busy weekend with Arc Light Productions showing 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' at Illini Bluffs High School today at 7:30 p.m., and events including Quad Con at the Civic Center, River City Pride Fest at Riverfront Park, and a Sweet Corn Festival in Chillicothe on Saturday—each offering local entertainment and community fun.  Pekin Daily Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Peoria Police said a 4-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle at about 4:46 p.m. on Tuesday, July 15 on the 400 block of NE Adams Street (he was taken to a local hospital after receiving emergency care) while the driver stayed at the scene (he cooperated with officers) as the investigation continued.  City of Peoria
  • A 17-year-old was arrested Tuesday night in South Peoria after police responded just before 11:30 p.m. to reports of an individual being shot at near Glenwood + Ayres when a 20-year-old said he was targeted while driving, and the teen now faces charges for firearm discharge + assault, property damage, and armed robbery.  WMBD

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Contemporary Art Center of Peoria will host Boogie Night—its annual disco costume dance party—on Saturday, August 2nd from 7 to 11 p.m. The party will feature a DJ playing vinyl disco hits and a costume contest with prizes.  WCBU

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On July 14, customers lined up at the Kroger on 3311 N. Sterling Ave in Peoria as the store began winding down with bare shelves—only the bakery stayed fully stocked. Kroger will close the store on Aug. 2 as part of a plan to shutter about 60 locations over the next year and a half.  Peoria Journal Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Peoria Public Schools Board of Education voted down a new security system called Evolv Monday night—its contract would have cost $121,000 a year to screen students' bags and detect weapons. Board members said they did not receive enough comparative information even though school principals had asked for the system for this school year.  WMBD

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Illinois American Water reported 14 out of 103 samples collected from Peoria County between January and June exceeded the lead action level; the company said it will conduct further tests and review its corrosion control treatment—steps targeting reduced exposure to lead in water.  WCBU

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Illinois homeowners and businesses that invested in solar technology will no longer get a 30% tax credit under the new federal spending plan signed on Independence Day. William Grant, owner of Sun Collectors in Peoria, said the cut may cause higher energy bills and delay or cancel solar projects through 2027.  25 News Now
