Good morning, Peoria.

Peoria police investigated a late Saturday night shooting near Sterling and Forrest Hill when officers responded just before 11:30 p.m.—a 24-year-old man with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds was later taken to a local hospital and no suspect has been identified.

A local group held its annual back-to-school giveaway at MECA Center in West Bluff Saturday to help inner-city youth access clear backpacks, uniforms, and sports physicals for the new school year.

Product of the Project provided around 800 clear backpacks—complying with the upcoming Peoria Public Schools requirement for middle and high school students starting in October.

Superintendent Joe Sander held his first Morton School Board meeting after replacing retired Craig Smock, and no public member attended except Morton Junior High School Principal Chris Carter.

He thanked donors for $66,321 and $85,550 in contributions and announced planning for a Morton High School hall of fame, summer gym renovations, acceptance of donations from Caterpillar Inc.-matching programs, approval for a non-district student's tuition, and rejection of a former resident's appeal in a closed session.
