COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Peoria Park District opened Lakeview Park’s new splash pad yesterday morning—replacing the family aquatic center that closed due to low attendance—and it offers free water play for kids with features like covered benches and picnic tables. The facility operates daily from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. from Memorial Day through Labor Day and cost just over $1 million, with about half funded by state grants.  WMBD

CRIME NEWS

  • Police arrested Allison L. Salinas in Pekin on Tuesday for allegedly trying to get someone killed earlier this month—FBI agents in Springfield helped gather evidence—and the case was sent to the Tazewell County State's Attorney's Office for prosecution.  Pekin Daily Times

  • Blues-rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa announced his spring 2026 tour—he will perform on Feb. 27, 2026 at Peoria’s Prairie Home Alliance Theater. Local pre-sales begin at 10 a.m. today so fans can purchase tickets at Ticketmaster or the Toyota Box Office.  Peoria Journal Star

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Teenagers attending Mission Peoria are helping Dream Center fill 2,000 backpacks—800 of which are clear to meet school requirements—with necessary supplies for the upcoming academic year this Saturday. Families are urged to arrive by 7:30 a.m. as the event kicks off at 9 a.m. and includes additional services like medical exams, hair cuts, and support from local organizations.  WMBD

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Peoria’s 4th District City Council member Andre Allen was chosen by Gov. J-B Pritzker to serve on the Tri-County River Valley Development Authority, which issues tax-free bonds to finance local economic projects—his appointment awaits confirmation by the Illinois Senate.  WMBD
  • Gov. Pritzker signed a new law on Monday that lets police remove squatters from homes without a court-ordered eviction—after Rep. Marcus Evans reported squatters moving in next door; the law will take effect Jan. 1.  WMBD
  • Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker appointed Peoria City Council member Andre Allen to the Tri-County River Valley Development Authority pending Senate confirmation—Allen, who is also the county's chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer, will work with leaders from Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties to boost economic development using tax-free bonds.  Peoria Journal Star
