🏘️ Community
Centerpoint Community Church (previously St. Bernard Church) reopened Sunday at 511 E.
Kansas St. in East Bluff. Church leaders plan to invest in the neighborhood after purchasing the adjacent Community Center and partnering with local nonprofits.
📰 Economy
Gas prices in the Peoria area continue rising after GasBuddy reported an average of $4.35 per gallon on Monday, up 13.6 cents from last week.
AAA recorded a local average of $4.33 and analysts say global tensions are keeping pump prices high.
🏛️ Government
The Tazewell County Board voted 17 — 2 last week to deny Sol Source Power’s request for a special use permit for a five‐megawatt solar farm in Mackinaw Township.
The project was proposed for a rural site at the intersection of Lowery and Gresham roads.
Beau Sutherland has been named permanent general manager of the Civic Center after serving as interim since June 1.
He began working at the facility in August 2000—bringing decades of leadership to support future operations.
Illinois launched the FRESH program on Aug.
1 to give a one-time $400 benefit on Link cards to households losing SNAP benefits from new federal work rules + lawmakers allocated $70 million to support nearly 150,000 families that lost coverage since May.
Illinois residents can shop during the state sales tax holiday when the state tax on qualifying back-to-school clothing and school supplies will be reduced from 6.25% to 1.25%.
The sale will run from Aug. 7 through Aug. 16, so check store details for eligible items.
