- ➤ Caterpillar reported slightly lower Q2 numbers with a 1% drop in sales and reduced profit margins that cost the company between $1.3 billion and $1.5 billion because of tariffs. The company said tariff effects are expected to grow in the third quarter as it works on actions to lessen the impact. Pekin Daily Times
- ➤ At Home said on Aug 1 it will close six more stores after filing for Chapter 11, including locations in Peoria and Crestwood that will shut by Sept. 30—another Illinois store is hosting a liquidation sale in Lake in the Hills—bringing the total closures to 30 while leaving only two stores open as the chain faces rising costs and inflation. - ➤ Peoria police responded to a report near Northeast Glen Oak Avenue and Prospect Road on Tuesday night—where a man armed with a wooden bat swung at officers, was tased and shot, and later died on scene as the Peoria County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause while state police launch an investigation. - ➤ On August 2, 26-year-old Sergio Delgado-Rodriguez allegedly held a gas station employee at gunpoint during a robbery in South Peoria and was charged with armed robbery; his detention hearing on August 4 ended with his release on conditions — including GPS monitoring, no contact with anyone involved and a ban on weapons. Peoria County

- ➤ Gov. Pritzker signed a law on Aug. 4 that limits the use of artificial intelligence in therapy services, preventing AI from making treatment decisions while allowing licensed professionals to use it for administrative support. The law takes effect immediately and sets fines of up to $10,000 for violations. Pekin Daily Times
