ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ An apartment fire on W. Woodhill Lane on Thursday around 2:10 p.m. caused about $60,000 in damage when a child played with a lighter—fire crews quickly controlled the blaze and the Red Cross provided temporary housing for two adults and seven children. WMBD
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Teamsters filed a lawsuit alleging that on July 10, Airgas released hazardous gas that exposed picketers at its Peoria facility on SW Adams Street. The suit claims battery and negligence while seeking damages and safety measures—Airgas called the claims ill-informed and reckless. Pekin Daily Times

- ➤ The Peoria Riverfront Museum received a $1 million gift from longtime supporter Mike Rucker on his 85th birthday, with his son and daughter-in-law establishing the Mike Rucker Endowment Fund for Science to support new science programs and honor his role in returning the Duryea car to the museum. The museum board later named the Duryea gallery in his honor after a celebration on August 8. Peoria Journal Star

- ➤ Members of the Education Association of Pekin launched their first community project—Stuff a Bus—to collect school supplies and donations for District 108 students at Walmart on Veterans Drive from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, and local groups including churches, unions, and the Pekin Moose Lodge have also contributed to help students in need. - ➤ The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity stripped PCCEO of $2.27 million in LIHEAP funding and $679,000 in Community Services Block Grants due to years of persistent instability and an overdue 2023 audit — the state will assign emergency LIHEAP providers for Peoria County this fall while PCCEO continues community services until year-end — and state investigations remain open. - ➤ Peoria city council will vote Tuesday on two redevelopment actions in the Warehouse District, including a plan to convert the historic former International Harvester buildings into 25 apartments and commercial space—developers will seek reimbursement for costs incurred before a redevelopment agreement is finalized. The proposals also revise an agreement for two other properties and aim to boost local tax revenue as construction is set to finish by the end of 2026. WCBU
