  • Co-Op Records in Pekin will close its doors on September 30; owner Denny Smith, who now lives in Nashville and pursues a music career, said he has opted not to renew his lease and is considering offers to keep the store open—though no deal has been finalized.  WMBD

CRIME NEWS

  • Peoria police are investigating a shooting in South Peoria where one man was shot in the leg near Romeo B. Garrett Avenue and Richard Pryor Place at 8:35 p.m. Saturday — he was taken to the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.  WMBD

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices remain unchanged in Peoria today, averaging $3.30 a gallon according to GasBuddy — this rate is 2.6 cents lower than a month ago and 39.8 cents lower than a year ago. AAA Illinois reports that the local prices match the state's average while the national average sits at $3.09 a gallon.  WMBD

FINANCE NEWS

  • Illinois does not tax monthly Social Security payments or most forms of retirement income like 401(k) funds and IRAs—federal taxes and taxes on work-based income still apply.
