  • City leaders and family honored one of Peoria's first African-American dentists by renaming part of West Bluff after D. W. Roscoe McCall during a Friday ceremony held at his former dental practice located at 1211 N. North Street—McCall worked for 30 years, retired in 2007, and died in 2023 at age 81.  WMBD

CRIME NEWS

  • On August 22, a 15 year old student who had been suspended returned to Manual High School with a gun and fired rounds at the building without aiming at people, and police arrested him quickly on charges including aggravated discharge of a firearm (no one was injured).  25 News Now
  • Peoria Police arrested a 15-year-old boy on weapons charges after he fired multiple rounds near Manual High School Friday and struck the building following a suspension, with no students or staff injured—officers quickly apprehended him after a brief foot chase.  WMBD
